2011 Detroit Auto Show vw Passat for United States

on the 2011 Detroit Auto Show stage, Volkswagen is unveiling a Passat developed specifically for the United States. Starting in mid-August, it will be available at North American dealers with an entry-level price in the 20,000 dollar range – larger, more comfortable and more efficient than ever.

Inside, it offers generous space. Volkswagen of America will offer the new Volkswagen in the three equipment lines S, SE and SEL. The saloon is also friendly to the environment. The Clean Diesel (TDI) with 103 kW / 140 PS attains a fuel economy of 43 miles per gallon! Other powertrain options: a 125 kW/ 170 PS five cylinder gasoline engine and a six cylinder engine with 206 kW / 280 PS.

Despite drawing on the looks that Europeans are familiar with, every external panel is new with subtle changes to the window line, rear lights, bootlid and bumper as well as restyled doors and front wings. The US Passat is 99mm longer and 13mm wider than the European version and will sell for about £13,000.
The range-topping engine will be a 3.6-litre unit producing 276bhp.
With the Passat now a reality, Chattanooga reporters could turn their attention to the rest of the North American International Auto Show in Detroit’s Cobo Hall.

This event was like O’Reilly’s World of Wheels on steroids. All the VW executives were there, as were the political elite of the Chattanooga/Hamilton County area. When the name was first revealed on Sunday evening at the VW event, many from the Scenic City were not keen on retaining an old name for an “all-new” car. Many felt it should have carried a more Chattanooga name. The new Maserati lived up to its usual sleek, beautiful body, as did the model who stood next to the car. As for the Tesla, who would have ever thought of building a hybrid sports car in the class of the elite? A four-door Porsche? Given it has four doors, it was still one of the sleeker cars on the floor.

The first was built on an Explorer body and chassis and, in my opinion, gave much more flexibility than the old passenger car model of the CV. Given either, if Chattanooga possessed these and I had to pay for a take-home car, count me in. The model for Maserati took first place in her category. The Passat’s audio system is a new collaboration, exclusively built for Volkswagen. It carries the popular game’s logo on a mostly black vehicle.
